Los Cabos in Baja California Sur is one of Mexico's most beautiful and exclusive destinations. It lies at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, 136 miles south of La Paz. The climate is warm throughout most of the year with an average temperature of 79 degrees fahrenheit. The area from West to East breaks down into 3 distinct areas. Cabo San Lucas, The Corridor and San Jose del Cabo.
History The area was first visited by the Spanish in 1535, but previously inhabited by the native indian tribes that were indigenous to the region. The area was rediscovered for it's sportfishing in the 1960's by some of the biggest names in the movie business.
Present Modern day Cabo is thriving as a vacation destination. In the last 5 years the amount of hotel rooms has doubled and as of 2006 The Los Cabos Area boasted over 10,600 lodging units. With current construction, the area is expected to have as many as 12,000 lodging units by the end of 2007. With many people opting to spend longer periods of time in Mexico, Cabo has experienced a real estate boom, as people choose Cabo as a place to own a second home, spend half the year or reside there full time. Los Cabos means the Capes and refers to Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo. (Cape of Saint Lucas and Cape of Saint Jose) A 33-kilometer highway, called the Corredor Turistico, or the tourist corridor, stretches from San Jose del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas. Things To Do During the winter in Los Cabos you can admire one of the most beautiful natural phenomena to occur on Mexico's coasts, the courtship, mating and birth process of the gray whale. During peak summer months, Magdalena Bay is perfect for scuba diving, kayaking, sportfishing, also to enjoy a romantic getaway on a pristine beach as you gaze out on El Arco, a rocky arch formation that is considered a landmark of this destination. Los Cabos unites together the waters the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez(also called the Gulf of California). UNESCO declared 244 islands and protected areas of the Sea of Cortez a World Heritage Site.
